I have already been into many beauty pageants in different cities to be one of their official photographers and also a judge for the Photogenic awards. I have been invited from local pageants like Ms. Kagay-an 2008 and 2009, Ms. Camiguin,Ms.Laguindingan to the national level Ms. Teen Philippines. I was really awed with the production of Ms. Liceo Emerald. It was just a school based pageantry having candidates from each of the colleges and also their highschool department and yet it felt like it was one major national pageant boasting with great intermission numbers. It was a great event indeed and I was happy that I could be part of their momentous occasion. To all candidates, win or lose, congratulations! And by the way, I would also personally congratulate Ms. Joanna Dignos and Ms. Blande Agtang, our chosen Ms. Photogenic and Fashion Photographer’s Choice awardees. They’ll be having a free photoshoot from us which they could personally use for their own portfolio, which I will also post here. Once again, congratulations to all winners.

davidson and gwen | Tenghun | Cagayan de Oro City

Tenghun which is called “engagement” in English is a traditional Chinese event before marriage. It was my first time to cover a tenghun event. So days before the event, I asked my colleague Aye Navarro about what usually happens during a tenghun event and also I did my own research about it so that I could be well prepared on what will be the things I need to take pictures of. And during the day proper, everything went well and also tried to be as silent as a sleuth so as not to be distracting during the traditional event. My shoutout to the soon to be wed couple: Davidson and Gwen.

sliver [?sl?v?] – 1. A slender piece cut, split, or broken off; a splinter.

The shoot was about breaking free from doing the usual shoot. The idea was doing a fashion type photoshoot but the photos portray not the clothes they wear but the emotion and the feelings the pictures gives you.

This was a visual art side project I had after I was invited by Essa and Mai of a photo shoot they had in mind. Essa and Mai are close friends of mine who came up with a nice and unique idea for a shoot. Their idea was inspired from the yin yang symbol and also to make do of simple garments for them to wear and it was my part on how to interpret their idea and make it like a high fashion shoot. My aim was to take their picture and direct them in such a way people will see first the emotions and the poses they did before the people realizing that they are only wearing simple linens.

We would like to thank club TILT management for giving us full use of the club area.

Katrina and Jerrold

Today is Valentine’s Day. Last week I had a photoshoot session with two young couple who are very much in love with each other and nope they are not getting married soon. They just wanted to have this photoshoot for them to enjoy. It was cool. It is a great idea for a date. Anyhow, I told Katrina to write something about the shoot so that I could also post it along with the photos. It was a great day, nice people to work with, guess it was one of those happy days that nothing seems to go wrong.

Being young, carefree and in love is something worth savoring. You never pass this way again. Not quite grown up yet to say it’s an engagement, but not too juvenile to say it’s just some fling. Every snapshot is a moment frozen in time. A fleeting moment that soon becomes a memory and to be able to capture the essence of your love and youth in a photograph is an arm’s length short of magic. So before t-shirts are traded in for ties, school books are traded in for taxes and we’re somewhere in between young love and forever, we might as well ham it up for the cameras and let loose.

Camille | Portrait shoot | Cagayan de Oro City

And so the month of Prom nights came. Camille, the first time I met her during our meeting before the shooting day, was your typical girl. She was shy and don’t talk much. Well I don’t know if I am correct with my first impressions of her, I tried to divulge more of her to get an idea what kind of treatment I’m going to do during our shoot. She showed me some photos, and luckily, she wanted what I usually like, a photo shoot in an open and grassy field. I really like taking into my framing the sway of the grasses in unison with the moving clouds. It gives that cool feeling in my photos. And so the day of the shoot came, Camille was glowing with warmth, her mother and sister was also there to support her and a very nice weather, nothing was going to hinder us from getting nice photos, well aside from that I only have an hour to do the shoot as we we’re doing the shoot an hour before Camille’s prom night.

Liceo University Cagayan de Oro City holds a pageant every 5 years for its Ms. Liceo Emerald. So it was really an honor to be invited as a major sponsor to take portrait shots of the 12 lovely candidates. Only two photographers were invited and that was Me, and Jonathan Neri. Actually, we are having a hard time choosing who we will choose as Ms. Photogenic and Fashion photographer’s choice awardees. Sam and Kai part 1 of 2 | engagement shoot | Camiguin

Earlier in my blog I told you that I had a wedding coverage in Camiguin that went ballistic, which I meant is the weather. It was raining so hard during the wedding day, most of all my ideas that I have thought of before we went to Camiguin, which I plan to do was not done. Well, in that case, that is what also happened during this engagement shoot.
The night after the wedding day I covered, I texted my client that the weather in Camiguin is gloomy and rain is very frequent, as what one of the residents there told me. But my client assured me, as she had checked on Pag-asa’s forecast, those days after, it will be sunny. True enough, when Sunday came, it was all sunny. It was a good sign. Our shoot was scheduled for Wednesday that same week and we were really planning to get a sunrise shoot. So to carry out our idea, we travelled a day before so as to be prepared for next day’s shoot. It was all sunny when we travelled going to Camiguin. I was getting excited to do the shoot the next day because it was also one of my dreams to shoot a couple in a sunrise scene in White Island, Camiguin. We set-up alarms that would wake us by 5am so that we would be in white island before sunrise. It was around 4am when we were woken up by heavy rain. Our hopes of getting that sunrise shot also poured along with the rain.
But the rain doesn’t matter actually. The point is, we were there, I’m fired up to taking pictures, my couple is also fired up for the shoot whatever happens. So we decided to still go on with our plan, and luckily we managed to have a nice photoshoot there with occasional drizzles. Their laughter was the key to success. We laughed our hearts content the whole time. And just as my previous post, even the weather can’t stop the happiness of two couples who are in love.

Erwin and Karen | Camiguin island wedding

I am a professional wedding photographer based in Cagayan de Oro City. Wedding photography is my career, and I love doing my job. It is my responsibility to capture my client’s wedding day whatever happens. As long as my camera is working, I don’t care whatever happens if ever I bruised up my knees again ( which I always did ) when I kneel to take photos, or tripped when I was taking photographs walking backwards, or plainly getting myself in the middle of the road dodging traffic just to get a great shot. Well it’s not that I am a masochist and loves to put my life in danger, I just want to get that perfect shots.

But in this case, it wasn’t the usual body bumping ride. The obstacle was the bad weather during the wedding day. It was raining cats and dogs that day. We were drenched. Luckily, I have this habit of setting aside lots of plastic bags inside my bag for my equipments just in case this kind of situation comes along ( a very useful tip to all photographers ). Even though it was raining hard, we still have the responsibility to take good shots. It was still our task to cover my client’s special day.

It was just a simple wedding ceremony of two people with extraordinary love with each other. And it was my job to immortalize it. I would also like to thank my sister, IRENE ASERIOS, for being my 2nd photographer that day.
